Stair Repair and Flight Fixer Safety Renovation Treads Maintenance Guidelines

Maintenance of Stair Repair and Flight Fixer Safety Renovation Treads

1. Treads should be swept with a broom or vacuumed with a heavy-duty commercial vacuum cleaner at least once a week.

2. Treads should be periodically scrubbed with a stiff bristled brush using any commercial or industrial all-purpose cleaner and thoroughly rinsed with clean water after cleaning. The use of Murphy's Oil Soap® is suggested. The use of a sponge mop will facilitate the ability to pickup excess water. Two types of brushes are recommended, a stiff polypropylene, hand brush or the use of a stiff polypropylene drill chuck bush that can be installed into a battery operated drill (powered drill brush). The use of these types of brushes will help speed up the cleaning process and sufficiently scrub the Flight Fixer surface by lifting the accumulated dirt from between the gritted surface. Rinsing with clean water and using the sponge mop to remove excess water will help eliminate the dirty film if final rinsing was done with dirty water. Note: the drill brush accessory can be found easily by reviewing Industrial Products Catalogs or call The Mat King for further details.

3. Scuff and heel marks on the aluminum nose can be removed by rubbing with a fine steel wool and a commercial cleaning agent.

4. To remove heavy grease and oil from the surface of the treads, use Murphy's Oil Soap® and brush vigorously with stiff bristled brush. Rinse with clean water and sponge mop excess from the tread surface. Let air-dry.

5. To remove snow and ice use sodium chloride salt.

Removal of Chewing Gum from Abrasive Surface of Treads

TOOLS REQUIRED: Putty knife, stiff bristled brush or powered drill brush, clean rags, commercial cleaning agent capable of removing gum, water and sponge mop.

CLEANING PROCEDURE: Scrape off as much excess chewing gum as possible with a putty knife. If gum is difficult to scrape off, soak it with commercial cleaning agent. This will soften the gum to allow the excess to be removed. It may be necessary to repeat this procedure several times. Vigorously scrubbing with a stiff brush or powered brush as mentioned above will help the cleaning process. Finish the job by cleaning the tread with Murphy's Oil Soap®, stiff brush, clean water and a sponge mop to remove excess liquid from the tread surface.
