Tuff Block Flooring Installation Guidelines

How to install Tuff Block Flooring

Tuff Block Interlocking Flooring installations:

1. If the wall to wall layout contains borders on 2-sides perpendicular to each other, lay those first.

2. Fill in rows and columns of center pieces until you get to the other two walls.

3. Then trim to fit.

NOTE: When Tuff Block mats are installed the diamond surface needs to be on top and the diamonds need to be running in the same direction.

How to trim the sides:

1. The mats are easy to cut. A good utility knife with a sharp blade will do the job nicely. A jig saw works or a reciprocating saw will work well also.

2. It can be helpful to have a can of WD-40 available. WD-40 gives the utility knife blade sufficient lubrication to help cut through the rubber better.

[Caution: When using WD-40, the lubricated knife blade will cut through the rubber so much easier that it may take one by surprise at first. We suggest that great care be taken to protect against potential injuries].

3. It can also be helpful to place a wooden 2x4 under mats being cut along the line of the intended cut to create an arch. By cutting along this arch, the mat will have a tendency to split and pull apart more easily as the knife is pulled through the mat.

Tuff Block Island Style Installation

This type of installation is easy and does not require the use of tools. Just fit the pieces together. For reference, a 31'- I" X 29' -1/2" island layout can be completely assembled in about 1-1/2 hours.

4' x 6' mat installation:

Start from a straight edge wall and work your way across the room. These mats just butt up next to each other. Since Tuff Block mats are not always rectangular some trimming may be required. Please follow the above cutting instructions. Tuff Block is a loose lay product. No adhesive is required. When equipment is first rolled onto the mats for placement some mat movement may occur depending on the thickness and size of the overall mat layout. There is no need to panic. Once the equipment is in place the mats will lay flat and mat movement should no longer occur.
