NCRA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual” for definition of terms related
to roofing work in this section.
ii. Interlocking, when referring to the loosely laid modular rubber base or
the drain protection unit, shall mean that the units shall connect one to another
independent of any intermediary unit or devise and that the connection shall
be accomplished such that the units shall be joined in such a manner that they
shall not be able to be dislodged with normal forces in any direction; i.e.
neither northward, southward, eastward, westward, upward and downward.
d. PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
i. General: Provide and deploy loosely laid modular interlocking molded rubber
base and drain units over existing roof to create pedestrian pathways from points
to be determined by architect and continuing to and including over designated
downspout drains. Supply and deploy electrified rubber ice and snow control
mats on top surface of pathways securing them in place to modular interlocking
molded rubber base using factory installed grommet holes and additional field
installed grommet holes according to manufacturer's guidelines and as determined
to be necessary given local conditions. Supply and install electrical power
cables, junction boxes, electrical supply panel and snow and temperature sensor/controller
at appropriate locations in support of electrified rubber ice and snow control
mats.
ii. Material Compatibility: Provide materials that are compatible with one another under conditions of service and application required and such that will coexist harmoniously with whatever roofing product may be deployed beneath them.
e. SUBMITTALS

requirements.
i. WARRANTY
i. General Warranty: Special warranties specified in this Article shall not
deprive Owner of other rights Owner may have under other provisions of the Contract
Document, and remedies available to the Owner under prevailing local laws, and
shall be in addition to, and run concurrent with, other warranties made by Contractor
under requirements of the Contract Documents.
ii. Special Warranty: Manufacturer’s standard form, without monetary limitation, in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace components of rooftop ice and snow control pathway and drain protection system that fail in material or workmanship within warranty period. Failure does not include roof leaks.
(1) Warranty Period:
A - Five (5) years from date of purchase for modular interlocking molded rubber
base and drain units.
B - Two (2) years from date of purchase for electrified rubber ice and snow
control mats.
C - Ten (10) years from date of purchase for electrified downspout wires.
D - Two (2) years from date of purchase for Snow and Temperature Sensor/Controller.
.
iii. Special Project Warranty:
Submit electrical installer’s warranty on warranty form at end of this
Section, signed by Installer, covering Work of this Section, including all electrical
wiring and components for the following warranty period:
(1) Warranty Period: Two years, minimum, from date of substantial completion.
2. PRODUCTS
a. MANUFACTURERS
i. In other Part 2 articles where subparagraph titles below introduce lists,
the following requirements apply for product selection:
(1) Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products by the manufacturer specifies.
b. Loosely laid modular
interlocking molded rubber base
i. Modular interlocking molded rubber base to be one (1) inch thick and to interlock
dynamically; i.e. they shall connect one to another independent of any intermediary
unit or devise and that the connection shall be accomplished such that the units
shall be joined in such a manner that they shall not be able to be dislodged
with normal forces in any direction; i.e. neither northward, southward, eastward,
westward, upward and downward. Product to be equal in performance levels to

3. EXECUTION
a. EXAMINATION
i. Obtain written confirmation from installer of roofing materials that the
roof is ready and able to receive the rooftop ice and snow pathway system.
ii. Visually inspect roof, downspout drains and locations where electrical wiring,
junction boxes and controller will be mounted to determine readiness.
b. PREPARATION
i. Remove any stray materials or debris that might cause the pathways to be
deployed improperly and which might cause damage to the roof were the weight
of the pathway materials and users brought to bear on it.
ii. Prevent materials from entering and clogging roof drains. Remove temporary
roof drain protection materials when no work is taking place and / or when rain
is forecast.
c. LOOSELY LAID MODULAR INTERLOCKING MOLDED RUBBER BASE INSTALLATION
i. Join interlocking units per manufacturer's instruction. Take measures to
protect roof while deploying pathway and drain protection system. Interlock
large holed verision of modular interlocking units over drains while incorporating
them into the overall deployment of that product.

i. Install according to manufacturer’s instructions. Use heavy duty tie
wraps laced through factory installed grommets and any additional grommets as
may be required based on local conditions and using manufacture’s guidelines,
threading tie wraps through appropriately sized holes to be drilled or punched
in appropriate locations in the interlocking molded rubber base.
