3M™ Momad Modular Matting 9200 -
1.0 Production Description
3M™ Nomad™ Modular Matting 9200 is a square shaped mat composed of a single tile of flexible vinyl material as the base and two strips of carpet pad. Each modular mat can be assembled together with another to form a larger entrance mat.
The tile base is made of high performance flexible vinyl material for medium traffic. The carpet pads are made of 3M™ Nomad™ Aqua 950, a patented combination of two types of polyamide yarns (small and large denier fibres), designed to remove both water and fine dirt.
3M™ Nomad™ Modular Matting 9200 offers customers flexibility to assemble depending the type of entrance and level of dirt or/and
water to remove.

8.0 Cleaning and Maintenance
Important:
1. To prevent premature wear, dirt must be removed from mat on regular basis (see Maintenance Instructions).
2. Regular cleaning and maintenance are necessary to prolong the life and maintain the high appearance of 3M™ Nomad™ Modular
Matting 9200.
3. Purchaser should inspect 3M™ Nomad™ Modular Matting 9200 products periodically to insure continued serviceability. Replace as
necessary due to normal wear and tear or damage.
The following instructions should be followed to maintain appearance and functionality, and to prolong the life of the matting
and surrounding flooring. The frequency of vacuuming and of cleaning should be adapted according to traffic conditions and to
the type of soiling.
Appropriate cleaning and regular maintenance helps:
• Extend the life of the matting by reducing the abrasive effect of dirt on the matting.
• Enhance matting effectiveness by reducing the re-tracking of soil and water from the mat to the building.
• Maintain the appearance of the matting and surrounding areas in the building.
Daily Maintenance:
Vacuum daily. Vacuum large debris from top of the mat. Mat structure has large enough openings to remove large debris and dirt without
lifting it out of the recessed well. Make sure the mat is dry before vacuuming.
Chewing gum removal. Chewing gum removal is required on a daily basis to prevent unsightly soiling and to avoid more difficult removal
at later date. Recommended procedure:
1. If soft, remove by gently scraping it away with a dull knife.
2. If hardened, treat with a suitable product such a chewing gum freezing chemical (aerosol).
3. On the scraper area (the vinyl material), use a screwdriver to help removal.
4. On the textile area (the carpet pads), use a hard nylon brush to help removal.
Periodic Cleaning:
1. Vacuum large debris from top of the mat. Mat structure has large enough openings to remove large debris and dirt without lifting it out of the
recessed well. Make sure the mat is dry before vacuuming.
2. For the carpet pads, spray on a carpet spray cleaner or a carpet shampoo and let it penetrate the carpet fibers. Then use a low speed rotary
floor machine fitted with a 3M Carpet Pad to pick up most of the surface dirt.
3. If needed, use carpet extraction equipment with suitable cleaning product to thoroughly clean carpet pads.
4. Damp mop the top surface of the vinyl materials using a general purpose cleaning solution. Then rinse the mat well.
5. Allow the mat to dry before use. Do NOT use solvents to clean the mat.
9.0 Installation Instructions
3M™ Nomad™ Modular Matting 9200 can be installed by a professional flooring/carpet installer or by a facility management team.
Instructions below should be followed for optimum results.
Tools Needed:
• Jig-saw
• Utility knife
• Straight edge, 3-4 feet (1-1.3 m) long
• Tape measure
• Flat screwdriver
3M™ Nomad™ Modular Matting 9200 is to be installed into a recessed well. Each mat tile is 7.87 inches x 7.87 inches (200 mm x 200 mm).
Length and width
First, determine total number of full tiles needed to fit into the recessed well by laying out the tiles in both the length and width
direction. If tiles overlap the edges of the well, then determine which tiles will need to be cut. It is recommended to cut tiles along both
sides of the recessed well in the length and/or the width direction to make it look even when installation is complete. For complete
instructions, refer to Cutting the mat tiles section below.
Depth
0.472 inch (12 mm) is recommended for the depth of the recessed well.
Cutting the mat tiles:
3M™ Nomad™ Modular Matting 9200 can be cut only on the vinyl material. It is not recommended to cut on the carpet pads because
they are not adhered to the vinyl material by adhesive. It is recommended to make the cut on the “side tiles”—tiles that are next to the
edges of the recessed well. To ensure an even and clean cut, a jig-saw is recommended.
Preparation for Installation:
• Prior to the installation, the recessed well should be thoroughly cleaned and vacuumed to remove dirt and dust.
• Do not install on uneven or dirty surfaces.
• Make sure the right number of tiles is available to cover the recessed well. There are 10 tiles in 1 box and these cover approximately 4.3
square feet (0.4 square meters). It is recommended to adjust the tiles to fit into the recessed well in order to minimize cutting.
• Remove the tiles from the box and allow the mats to be flattened at room temperature for at least 2 hours to make sure there is no tilt on
the corner of the mats.
• Place the mats on a level surface with the carpet side up and do not pull the mat when installing.
Installation Process:
It is recommended to assemble and install the modular mat tiles directly into the recessed well. This will eliminate having to move a heavy
and large mat into the recessed well once assembly is completed.
1. Turn the mat tile upside down and you will notice there are 7 pegs along each of two sides of the tile and 7 holes along each of the other
two sides. The pegs will be inserted into the holes to connect the mat tiles. (See Image 1).
2. Turn the mat tile carpet side up and begin placing the mat tiles into the top left corner of the recessed well with the pegs along the top
and right edges of the tile (See Image 2). The mat tiles should be installed from left to right, and top to bottom. Lay down your first
row of tiles. When you lay down the second row, place it directly below the first row, making sure the pegs are again along the top and
right edges of the tile. Continue laying the tiles into the recessed well until all your tiles are in place. If you need to cut tiles to fit into the
recessed well, refer to recommendations above on cutting the mat tiles.
3. Before connecting the tiles, make sure the carpet pieces are positioned in the same direction on each tile. Once the tiles are all laid
out, line up the pegs over the holes and begin pressing the pegs into the holes using your fingers or a screwdriver to connect the tiles
together (See Image 3). You will hear a snap when the connection is securely in place. A screwdriver is preferred to accelerate the
installation process and obtain a secure connection. Continue until all pegs are snapped into all holes. Trim the tile edges with a utility
knife if there are excess pegs or holes when the installation is complete.
