Standard Issue Disposable Paper Bath Mats are a bright beautiful white heavy absorbent 70 basis weight paper that do what they are supposed to do. They provide a clean, inviting and highly absorbent disposable mat that will reduce the slip and fall hazard so common to areas adjecent to bath tubs and shower stalls. Standard Issue Disposable Paper Bath Mats measure 14-1/2" x 20-1/2" and are supplied in cases containing 500 mats per case. Minimum quantity: twelve (12) cases.

The Rational Behind and Under Standard Issue Disposable Paper Bath Mats. We were trying to discover if there is some kind of "index" for measuring the absorbency rate or capacity of such material and kept running into stone walls. We then inquired as to the rational behind the way the mats are made relative to their application and can report the following for your edification and consideration. The Standard Issue Disposable Paper Bath Mats, as stated above, "are a bright beautiful white heavy absorbent 70 basis weight paper that do what they are supposed to do: They provide a clean, inviting and highly absorbent disposable mat that will reduce the slip and fall hazard so common to areas adjacent to bath tubs and shower stalls.” To understand how the material accomplishes that, it must be understood that the very water, which alone would cause the slip hazard by not allowing the user to gain any kind of traction position on the floor because of the water that stays trapped between the foot pad and the surface of the floor tiles for example. This condition is referred to as “hydroplaning” and is a term with which most of us have become familiar from watching television commercials for automobile rain tires. In those commercials, the tire’s ribbing and cleating serve to remove the standing water by channeling it away from the surface on which the tire must maintain direct contact with the road. To the degree to which the tires are able to accomplish that objective is the degree to which the driver of the vehicle will be able to control the car as it moves forward. The moment the water is allowed to interrupt direct connection between the tire and the road, the car will be at the mercy of the elements and will not be able to be steered, stopped with the breaks or advanced by increasing wheel rotation by “giving it gas”. The same principals come into play in the use of The Standard Issue Disposable Paper Bath Mats. Instead of the cleats of the tire that channel the water from under the tires, the paper establishes a high traction surface for the user's feet to engage and thereby allows the user to maintain his or her balance and to safely maneuver from one position to another. The interesting phenomenon that allows this high traction surface to become established is that it will not work unless the mat is wet and unless the mat is able to both absorb the water sufficiently to conform to the floor beneath through what is referred to as dynamic tension. The same phenomenon is used by wait persons in restaurants when using a tray to carry glasses. The glasses, if left alone on the hard surface of the tray would slip and slide and be almost uncontrollable. Experienced wait persons introduce a napkin onto the surface of the tray and dampen it sufficiently to cause the napkin to “stick” and, by doing so, provide a sufficiently high traction surface to inhibit the glasses from migrating with the carrier’s every motion. The dynamic tension established between the surface of the tiles of the floor and The Standard Issue Disposable Paper Bath Mats provide just that type of dependable surface for bathers to use. The Standard Issue Disposable Paper Bath Mats does not have to absorb tons of water but rather merely connect to the tiles because of the water and be substantial enough to maintain its integrity under the intended use. That is why The Standard Issue Disposable Paper Bath Mats are made from the type and weight paper provided; i.e. “heavy absorbent 70 basis weight” paper. They are intended to be disposed of after one use. They are not intended to do anything more than work as they work as described above. If absorbing large quantities of water were the objective, cotton cloth mats would be perhaps the appropriate choice. But, for the immediate and transitory task at hand, or should we say, “at foot”, The Standard Issue Disposable Paper Bath Mats are about as right as you can get and they are priced to move even though we know they are made to hold their ground. We hope this explanation is helpful and we encourage you to take off
your shoes and to put The Standard Issue Disposable Paper Bath
Mats to the wet floor anti-hydroplaning test. Samples will
