Mat Shapes and Configuration - Mats can be made is several way in order to provide sufficient coverage for each user and to make the removal of the mat for repositioning and cleaning purposes a easy as possible. In each instance it is assumed that the mat is to be deployed such that the user can move around the chair where he or she needs to work and still be on the mats comfortable surface. The mats can be shaped in a rectangular shape or in a circular shape. The edges facing away from the chair are beveled, which is accomplished by the sculpting of the foam beneath so that the tile top will slope down to form a beveled edge. The beveled edge make the transition from floor up on to a mat easier to accomplish and safer. The foam and or the tile top material that would be located underneath the chair base can be cut away completely, left without foam under the chair base but with the tile top material left so as to become an anchor for the mat when the chair and a person is seated in it. The tile top material can also be cut away for chairs that are sufficiently heavy as to preclude periodic tipping that would allow the mat to be installed under its base or removed for cleaning and the like.

Special Shapes for Special Situations - As an example, there are some dentists who prefer working while standing rather than rolling around on a chair. We understand that that was the accepted way of working many years ago. Making hygienically appropriate mats that will surround a dental chair was accomplished with one solid piece of tile backed with foam and sculpted to fit the pattern required; i.e. round or square. Today, making such a mat has become a special situation since the 6' wide tile material in rubber is rarely made and if it is it may be in very limited colors. We address the problem by providing a set of two mats that butt seam to each other and have a cut out for the chair base and can be shaped in round or square formats with beveled edges. That way any of our colors can be used and the client can work safely and comfortably with no concerns for maintaining cleanliness. Please see the sketch below for details.
