Does our Seclusion Room really need Safety Floor Matting from The Mat King?
Seclusion Room Safety Wall and Floor Padding is admittedly not a “fun” topic of discussion. This product deals with the safety and well being of persons who are often unstable in some way and who may even be self-destructive. At the forefront of the planning for such a facility as a Seclusion Room, there must be a basic understanding that when a person is upset and seeks to harm himself or herself in some way, they may resort to almost anything within their reach and try to turn it into a weapon. The Mat King approach to the design of its Seclusion Rooms is to make the very walls and flooring that have been designated as a safe place for those who need it as far from being turned into a self-destructive weapon as possible. Simply put, if a person were to run across the room and smash themselves into one of the walls, we would want that wall to have been equipped with sufficient padding as to nullify the destructive intent of the room’s inhabitant. Similarly, if someone placed in a Seclusion Room knelt down on the floor and started to bang their head onto the floor in front of them, we would want to know that the floor padding that we placed on the floor was going to mitigate the amount of damage that person could do to themselves before an observer could enter the room to help calm them down in some way.
We determined that the height of 6’-6” for the wall padding is the minimum required in a Seclusion Room. We have determined that surrounding the door jams and the doors themselves with padding is necessary so that the protruding architectural elements are not able to be turned into weapons. We suggest that the wall pads be 6’ in height and that they be mounted 6” off the floor so that the Floor Matting, which is designed to cover the entire floor, will be able to fit comfortably under the Wall Pads and that the Sanitary Covering Sheet can be easily deployed around each of he Floor Matting edges that are adjacent to the wall and secured to the underside of the Floor Matting to the Heavy Duty Velcro that has been installed in those locations expressly for that purpose.
If the client wished to secure the Floor Matting to the existing flooring, The Mat King would do what it could to facilitate that objective. All this would be done to help insure that those who needed the safety of a Seclusion Room would find it in one supplied by The Mat King.
When we are informed that a client does not require the floor matting, we are forced to wonder why. Is there already proper and effective floor matting in place that will protect a user from hurting themselves by smashing themselves onto the floor? If there is such a protective element in place, then we are fine with just supplying the Wall Padding part of the Seclusion Room equipment. However, because of the litigious nature of our society, when a client of The Mat King orders Seclusion Room Safety Padding but chooses not to acquire the Safety Floor Matting, we ask that the client acknowledge that they have been informed of the recommended way of equipping a Seclusion Room and that by choosing not to equip the seclusion room with Safety Floor Matting from The Mat King that, in the event that a user succeeds in injuring themselves in that Seclusion Room, that there would be no responcibility assigned to The Mat King or to any of its employees and partners.
A statement to that effect is to be supplied at the time of the placement of their order to The Mat King by clients who chose not to include Protective Safety Floor Matting as part of their Seclusion Room order.
Thank you. – The Mat King.
